As the renovation of the Old Board School building on Lloyd Street, Llandudno enters the final stages, Penderyn are now recruiting for the first of several posts created by the development. Penderyn were granted planning permission in August last year to restore and convert the former school into a Distillery and Visitor Centre. Since then, contractors from Mold-based MPH Construction have been carrying out the renovation works, including the addition of a modern glazed extension to the back of the building.
Opening later this year, the working distillery will produce a range of unique peated single malt whiskies on site, as well as provide a year-round, all weather tourism attraction in North Wales.In the region of 13 jobs are expected to be created in the first year, with the role of Site & Visitor Centre Manager now open for applications.
Neil Quigley, Penderyn Director of Operations said:
“We are very pleased to see the progress that’s been made on site, despite the obvious challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit. Now that the restoration is almost complete, we’re aiming to bring in the distillery equipment within a few weeks and start the installation and commissioning by early April at the latest. This means that we’re still on track to be open to the public by the spring or early summer.
We want to recruit a strong team to run the operations in Llandudno, and the Site & Visitor Centre Manager role is a really important one in bringing that team together. This person will have responsibility for both the production and visitor elements of the site, and so we’re looking for someone who has experience in operational efficiency as well as marketing and customer relations.
We already have a solid base of loyal customers in North Wales, but having the Distillery and Visitor Centre in Llandudno will put us in a stronger position to further develop our brand and networks across the region and beyond. We’re inviting applications from anyone who has the required experience and who shares our passion for growing the Penderyn brand regionally, nationally and internationally.
Once we have this person on board, we’ll be recruiting for the other posts – including still operators, administration and tour guides.We’re really hoping to attract people with the relevant skills from the local area and help boost the North Wales labour market at the end of what has been an exceptionally difficult 12 months.”

Bydd y ddistyllfa newydd yn agor yn ddiweddarach eleni, gyda wisgi brag sengl unigryw yn cael ei gynhyrchu ar y safle. Bydd hefyd yn cynnwys atyniad a fydd ar agor gydol y flwyddyn i ymwelwyr yng Ngogledd Cymru.
Disgwylir i oddeutu 13 o swyddi gael eu creu yn y flwyddyn gyntaf, ac mae rôl Rheolwr y Ganolfan Ymwelwyr a’r Safle yn awr ar agor i ymgeiswyr.

“Gydag adferiad yr adeilad bron wedi’i gwblhau, rydym yn anelu at ddod â’r offer distyllu i mewn yn yr wythnosau nesaf a chychwyn ei osod a’i weithredu erbyn dechrau Ebrill ar yr hwyraf. Mae hyn yn golygu y gallwn gyflawni ein nod o fod ar agor i’r cyhoedd erbyn y gwanwyn neu ddechrau’r haf.”
Ychwanegodd: “Rydym yn awyddus i recriwtio tîm cadarn i arwain y gweithrediadau yn Llandudno, ac mae rôl y Rheolwr yn un bwysig iawn o ran dod â’r tîm hwnnw at ei gilydd.
“Bydd gan yr unigolyn a benodir gyfrifoldeb am yr elfennau cynhyrchu yn ogystal â’r atyniad ymwelwyr, ac felly rydym yn chwilio am rywun sydd gyda phrofiad o effeithlonrwydd gweithredol yn ogsytal â marchnata a gofal cwsmer.
“Mae gennym eisoes sylfaen gref o gwsmeriaid yng Ngogledd Cymru, ond bydd cael y Ddistyllfa a’r Ganolfan Ymwelwyr yn Llandudno yn ein rhoi mewn sefyllfa well fyth i ddatblygu ein brand a’n rhwydweithiau ymhellach ar draws y rhanbarth a thu hwnt.
“Rydym yn gwahodd ceisiadau gan unrhyw un sydd â’r profiad gofynnol ac sy’n rhannu ein brwdfrydedd ni o ran tyfu brand Penderyn yn rhanbarthol, cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol.
“Unwaith y bydd y person hwn wedi’i apwyntio, byddwn yn recriwtio ar gyfer y swyddi eraill – yn cynnwys gweithredwyr distyllyron, staff gweinyddol a thywyswyr.
“Rydym yn mawr obeithio y bydd y swydd yn denu ceisiadau gan unigolion lleol sydd gyda’r sgiliau perthnasol ac y bydd hynny’n helpu i roi hwb i’r farchnad waith yng Ngogledd Cymru ar ddiwedd 12 mis hynod iawn o anodd.”
